Peppermint (Mentha piperita) has a strong, clean, fresh, minty aroma and is one of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs. As with all essential oils, there are plenty of ways to use them. But here are just some of the ways you can use Peppermint oil:


1) apply to bottoms of feet and back of neck to reduce fever *(more on this to come)
2) add to boiling water for tea (1 drop = 30 peppermint tea bags)
3) apply to roof of mouth as nasal decongestant 
4) apply to unbroken skin to reduce itching
5) apply to temples and neck to relieve headaches/migraines
6) rub on abdomen to relieve gas, indigestion and diarrhea *(this was a dream when Philippa was a newborn and suffered with gas for several days)
7) inhale and place two drops on tongue before a test to improve memory and focus *(Peter always takes a bottle of Peppermint with him on days he has exams)
8) inhale and massage several drops on the abdomen to relieve nausea *(should not be used directly on the abdomen in late pregnancy when a baby is already in vertex position. Peppermint has been known to correct breech babies).
9) dot on tongue as breath freshener
10) mix with salts and add to bath for cool, refreshing bath
11) apply to injuries to reduce inflammation and bruising
12) to prevent motion sickness inhale and massage on chest  *(I now do this every time I get on a bus)
13) rub on joints to relieve aches and pains
14) use in a foot bath to relieve sore feet
15) apply to cotton bud and swab around embedded ticks to remove
16)  apply neat to poison ivy or poison oak to reduce itching and dry out rash
17) rub on abdomen and lower back to ease menstrual cramps
18) mix several drops into batter for chocolate-mint brownies
19) rub 1-2 drops on chest to ease cough
20) mix 1 drop with coconut oil for nourishing facial moisturiser *(avoid eyes entirely)
21) to improve oily hair, dilute 2-3 drops in 4 ounces water and spray on scalp and roots (no need to rinse)
22) place two drops on a cotton ball and put at point of entry to deter rats, mice, ants, etc.
23) to improve dry, cracked heels, massage daily into soles of feet
24) apply to back of neck to relieve hiccups
25) inhale before and during a workout to reduce fatigue and boost energy
